Clinical Trials

The Brain Stimulation and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory conducts clinical trials to evaluate novel neuromodulation interventions for motor and cognitive recovery. Our studies are designed to advance science while offering participants access to cutting-edge therapies.

Participation in our studies is always voluntary. All protocols are approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and follow the highest standards of safety and ethics.

Ongoing Clinical Trials

Home-Based tDCS for Cognitive Recovery

  • Objective: To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of remotely delivered transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) combined with cognitive training.
  • Eligibility: Adults with cognitive impairment following ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke (within the last 12 months).
  • Participation: Home-based sessions using a stimulation device provided by the lab, with remote monitoring by our research team.
  • RTMS for Motor Rehabilitation Post-Stroke

    • Objective: To determine the effectiveness of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in enhancing upper limb motor recovery.
    • Eligibility: Adults recovering from ischemic stroke with persistent motor weakness in the arm or hand.
    • Participation: Outpatient visits at our laboratory, including stimulation sessions and standardized rehabilitation exercises.

    Neurovascular Coupling During Neuromodulation

    • Objective: To understand how non-invasive brain stimulation influences cerebral blood flow and neurovascular responses.
    • Eligibility: Adults with or without neurological disorders who are interested in participating in physiological studies.
    • Participation: In-lab sessions using combined EEG, fNIRS, and robotic TCD monitoring during stimulation tasks.

    Why Participate?

    • Access to innovative brain stimulation interventions not yet widely available.
    • Contribution to advancing treatments for stroke recovery, dementia, and other neurological disorders.
    • Careful monitoring by our clinical and research teams throughout the study.
