The Brain Stimulation & NeuroRehab Laboratory

We are a multidisciplinary team of neurologists, neuroscientists, and physicians dedicated to advancing neuromodulation and neurorehabilitation research for neurological disorders. Our work integrates non-invasive brain stimulation, multimodal neurophysiology, and rehabilitation science to improve motor and cognitive outcomes, translating scientific discovery into therapies aimed at restoring independence and quality of life.

Our studies are conducted in collaboration with clinical and research partners across the University of Oklahoma Health Campus and affiliated centers, as well as with academic institutions in the United States, including the University of Pennsylvania and Northwestern University.

Facilities & Technology

Our laboratory integrates advanced neuromodulation systems with multimodal imaging to investigate brain function and recovery:

  • tDCS — Laboratory-based and home-based platforms for cortical modulation
  • tACS — Tools to probe and influence brain rhythms
  • TMS / rTMS — Used for cortical assessment and therapeutic intervention
  • EEG + fNIRS — Combined electrophysiological and hemodynamic monitoring
  • Robotic TCD and DVA — Precision systems to measure cerebral blood flow and motor recovery

Research Highlights

Motor Recovery

We design and evaluate non-invasive brain stimulation protocols to accelerate motor rehabilitation following stroke and other neurological injuries.

Cognitive Recovery

Our research investigates how neuromodulation can enhance memory, attention, and executive function in conditions such as post-stroke cognitive impairment and dementia.

Mechanistic Neurophysiology

We use EEG, fNIRS, and robotic transcranial Doppler techniques to characterize how neuromodulation reshapes brain networks and neurovascular responses.
