Peter Mukli, MD*, PhD

Assistant Professor

Peter graduated from Semmelweis University, Faculty of Medicine (Budapest, Hungary) with an MD degree, and obtained a PhD in physiology at the same institute. He also holds a BSc-level degree from bioengineering and completed a postgraduate training in clinical research (Harvard Medical School, Boston). Ha joined the Translational GeroScience Laboratory at the University of Oklahoma Health Campus where he was studying cerebrovascular mechanisms of age-related cognitive impairment. He established his laboratory in 2024 and his current research focuses on functional brain imaging studies of cognitive impairment and understanding the determinants of healthy and pathological brain aging. His laboratory conducts clinical trials aimed at cognitive rehabilitation of high-risk geriatric populations in line with the mission of the Center for Geroscience and Healthy Brain Aging. His team collaborates with the Stephenson Cancer Center Breast Oncology Clinic to investigate cerebrovascular mechanisms and endothelial damage markers of chemotherapy-related cognitive impairment through functional near-infrared spectroscopy, electroencephalography, transcranial Doppler and analysis of blood samples. He also aims to demonstrate the clinical relevance and validity of novel functional brain imaging biomarkers in patients with major depressive disorder. In his free time, he enjoy hiking across national and state parks of the United States, participating in running events, skiing, biking and soccer.

*Currently does not have a medical licence in the state of Oklahoma
