Dr. Saleh Velez is a clinician-scientist specializing in vascular neurology, neuromodulation, and neurorehabilitation. He serves as Co-Director of the Brain Stimulation and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory at the University of Oklahoma Health Campus as well as Associate Program Director for the Vascular Neurology fellowship.
His research investigates how non-invasive brain stimulation, including transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), can enhance motor and cognitive recovery following neurological injury. He has served as Principal Investigator and collaborator on multicenter clinical trials within the multiple national and international research networks and has contributed to mechanistic studies of neurovascular coupling using EEG, fNIRS, and robotic transcranial Doppler techniques. He also has experience in the application of artificial intelligence to understand, predict, and improve stroke motor recovery.
Dr. Saleh Velez is actively engaged in global health initiatives focused on stroke care and neurorehabilitation capacity-building, with collaborations across Latin America, Africa, and Europe. His work combines clinical expertise, mechanistic neuroscience, and international collaboration to advance recovery-focused interventions and improve outcomes for patients with neurological disorders.
